If there’s one positive takeaway from the current state of the world, it might be this: punk has finally reclaimed its full cultural legitimacy. The fat years are over, Katy Perry is flying to Mars, and the EasyJet generation has made every European metropolis practically uninhabitable. All of this – and much more – is processed by the Cologne-based band GRENZKONTROLLE in their songs. Musically stripped down to the essentials and paired with politically sharp lyrics, GRENZKONTROLLE occasionally nod – more or less – to the Neue Deutsche Welle (NDW), a time when everything was already pretty messed up. And who knows, maybe new fat years will follow. Either way, it’s going to get hot.
