Albums are old news. In the age of streaming we are listening to contextual playlists, to soundtracks that accompany our lives, from "Cooking with Friends" and "In my Car" to "Your Weekly Mix". Playlists entitled "Study Music" or "Deep Concentration" are designed to help us when learning, while "It's raining outside" sets the musical backdrop to a grey day. Music is being used in an increasingly functional way, and produced for specific moods and atmospheres. Starting with playlists, this panel will delve into the future of music-listening and shed light on AI composing, contextual awareness and fake artists. We will also discuss the political power struggles between Majors and Spotify and their multibillion profits. And lastly, we will talk about what's on the cards next and whether musicians will still be playing a role at all.
