Fair pay in the music scene: between expectations and reality

FREE ENTRANCE

The goal is clear: musicians – be they on stage, off stage or backstage, in clubs or at festivals – should be able to live off their wages, fees and salaries. SONART – Music Creators Switzerland is currently working on remuneration recommendations for the modern music sector (including ‘pop/rock’) – a tool already used across many other art sectors. What sounds like a solid solution in theory turns out to be rather complex in practice: on the one hand, the recommendation promises living wages, but on the other hand, clubs and festivals fear for their survival due to rising fees. How do you solve this paradox? And what role does cultural promotion play in this? PETZI and the cultural promotion offices, working in close partnership with SONART, provide insights into a complex topic that affects the entire music scene.

Presented by PETZI – Swiss federation of music venues and festivals.

This conference is conducted in German, with simultaneous translation into French.
