"Broken music for broken people", says LYRIC magazine on Hatepop's music. Their debut album "¥UNG FUCKUP$" deals with drugs, lack of direction, loneliness, melancholy and failure – or in short, with the fucked-up aspects of their own existence. Hatepop aren't looking to please anyone, but want to hold a mirror up to meritocracy – just as group member Jessica Jurassica did in her debut book "Das Ideal des Kaputten" ("The ideal of the broken"). Hatepop's industrial trap songs are an elaborated form of criticism of discriminatory and toxic systems. Avoiding these systems is the group's goal: Hatepop is organised as a collective, meaning that the members come up with all of the creative decisions and ideas together, rather than individual rappers or producers.
